Biography
Dr. Helen L. Bernie, DO, MPH is a board certified, fellowship trained urologist specializing in Men's Health. She is an Assistant Professor of Urology, and the Director of the Male Sexual and Reproductive Medicine Program at Indiana University. She is also the Andrology Fellowship Director.
She has a passion for treating Men’s Health, Erectile Dysfunction, Peyronie’s Disease and Cancer Survivorship. She completed her urology residency training at the University of Rochester and completed a 2-year fellowship in Male Sexual and Reproductive Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical College in NYC. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) and is the chair of the communication and technology committee. She was the past scientific chair for the fall annual SMSNA meeting in 2024. She is also very active internationally serving on the International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM) as the chair of the ISSM young researchers committee and was on the International Consultation of Sexual Medicine (ICSM) guideline panel for "Sexual Dysfunction in Male Infertility".
She won the “Young Urologist of the Year” award in 2024 from the American Urological Association (AUA) and is on the AUA guideline committee for Erectile Dysfunction and Peyronie's Disease. Dr Bernie is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and serves on the social media committee. She serves as an early career editor for the Journal of Urology and is on the editorial board for Urology Times. She is passionate about mentoring and training the next generation teaching at the IU School of Medicine and training the urology residents and fellows. She is active in cutting edge research on penile implants, Peyronie's disease, erectile dysfunction and men's health, fertility preservation as well as testosterone in prostate cancer.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three boys.
