Jay D. Raman

Jay D. Raman, MD, FACS is Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology at the
Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He received his undergraduate
degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1997 and graduated
AOA from Cornell University Medical College in 2001. Dr. Raman completed his
Urology Residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell Medical Center followed
by a Fellowship in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. Raman’s clinical practice focuses on robotic-assisted surgery for upper and lower
tract urologic cancers. His clinical research centers on quality of care for prostate
cancer patients, novel treatments for upper-tract urothelial carcinoma, biomarkers for
urinary tract cancers, prostate biopsy infections, as well as complications of urologic
surgery.  To date, he has co-authored over 350 manuscripts, book chapters, and
editorials and serves on the editorial board for three journals and as a reviewer for 12
journals. He has received funding on over 10 prospective clinical trials.
Dr. Raman is currently Chair of the American Urologic Association Office of Education
responsible for the educational materials of over 15,000 members throughout the
country. He is also the Immediate Past-President of the Mid-Atlantic AUA section and
serves on the Advisory Council of Urology within the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Raman has lived with his wife and three children in Hershey, PA for 14 years.
